I didn’t know this. So I looked it up and - HE ACTUALLY DID.

‘I keep my van well stocked. It’s got a proper machine that dispenses Mr Whippy ice cream and I buy my lollies wholesale – 50 for a tenner – so I never run short.

I’m not allowed to sell my merchandise. I’d need a licence for that. ‘I tend to avoid July and August, but the rest of the year I’ll drive around the local villages and if I see some kids looking like they’re in need of ice creams, I’ll pull over and dish them out for free. They’ll say, “Ain’t you Ron Weasley?” And I’ll say, “It’s strange, I get asked that a lot.”

Inspiration: where to find it

It’s something all writers want: inspiration. It’s also something that’s, sometimes, very hard to get.Though, inspiration can be found anywhere.

Some tips to find insiration:

1 Your own life: nothing is as inspirational as your own life. Sometimes it helps to write down everything that happened in your life: make a list. You can put those things in your story. You know exactly how you feel about those things, what’s it’s like to go through them. This enables you to describe it very well. You also help yourself: writing about things you’ve been through helps you processing it all.

2 Your fears: where are you afraid of? Make another list, this time of things that you are afraid of, things you absolutely don’t want to go through. Try to think about how you’d react if those things did happen. This may give you some ideas for your story: let your character go through the things you’re afraid of.

3 Your desires: a story is perfect to put in your desires. You can give your character anything, so you can also give him/her the things you (desperately) want. Or, you can make your character want the same things. You know what it’s like to want those things, so you can describe the feeling very well. What would you want to happen in your real life? That can happen in your story.

4 Places you love: specific places can be very inspirational. For example, if you love to go outside, go outside! Put those places in your story. It helps to actually go to one of those places, and then daydream. If you stand there, what do you think of? What would you want to happen? What are you afraid of?

5 Friends: a very good idea for you and your friends. Everyine has his or her own story. Most people tend to keep it to themselves, because they think nobody cares. But everyone’s story can be very inspirational: maybe they’ve been through things you can’t even imagine. Ask them for their stories, and use them for the story you’re writing or want to write. You can combine people’s stories, creating a whole new story.

6 Out on the streets: go somwhere. Not because you want that place in your story, just a place where you can look at other people. Then think: what would be their story? Why would they be here? Where would they live? What will they do tonight? There are always some people around who will catch your eye. How do they feel? Why would they feel that way?

7 Just ask: of course you can ask your friends for their stories. But maybe, you already know their stories. Then realize: this earth has 7 billion people, maybe even more by now. They all have their stories! Why not go out in the streets, and just ask? Just ask them for their stories, they’ll sure give you ideas for your own story.

8 Discuss: if you have some ideas, but you don’t know how to combine them: ask someone else for advice. If you ask other writers, there’s a huge chance they’d want to help you: maybe it’ll give them some inspiration too. Otherwise, just ask your friends. Give them your ideas, ask them for their opinion. This can sure help!

9 What if?: What would happen if? If you collected some ideas because you listened to other people’s stories, it’s very likely you don’t know how your character would react: each person reacts differently to things. What helps is to ask other people how they would do it. Give them the “what if”-question.

If you use another person’s story: do ask them for their permission. they’ll probably like it that someone’s interested in them, it’s just polite to ask them for their permission. Always treat your sources well!

This is Jakey (Damian cosplayer) with his new friend Ethan at the San Jose Comicfest. Ethan is an extraordinarily artistic 8 year old with his own booth at the convention, whom Jakey consistently returned to during the day. When asked by Mick Gray (the inker for Batman and Robin), what his favorite part of the convention was, Jake told him it was meeting Ethan. At the end of the con, Ethan gifted the spider-man he had been working on all morning to Jakey and even signed his work. Ethan’s face when he handed the art to Jakey… omg. My heart cannot take how adorable they are. Jacob is now practicing how to draw a robin, so he can have something to give Ethan tomorrow. <3

you know it’s funny because people know that I write but majority of the people who know me irl have never read a single thing I’ve written. And yeah, it’s because I don’t let them but my point is that I can’t accept and compliments/ assurances from them because they have no basis. And I’m not comfortable giving them one. So endless cycle of doubt. But I’m working on it, I swear. I like to think that I’m making progress. It’s just harder most days than it is others.
